HELP THE HORN (Capture The Flag)
Event Date: Sunday August 21, 2011
More than 10 million people across the Horn of Africa are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance due to a deadly combination of drought, escalating food prices and armed conflict/militia. An estimated 2 million children under the age of 5 are currently facing a PAINFUL death due to starvation. And the World Food Program has announced that they currently have less than 3 weeks of food to supply to the growing Millions of displaced people crossing over to the Kenya border Dadaab refugee camp from Somalia.
GENERATIONS upon GENERATIONS run the risk of being wiped out due to the crisis. We must take IMMEDIATE action to alleviate the growing crisis in Africa and by doing so we simply choose not to just be bystanders, to not just be human "beings" but HUMAN DOINGS!
This event will also be featured on The Domino Movement’s website (www.thedominomovement.com) a blog dedicated to bringing change to the world one person at a time.

"Their Weapon, Our Voice Talent Show"

The African Students Association (ASA) @ University of South Florida is proudly hosting the “Their Weapon, Our Voice Talent Show” on Saturday, October 29th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. This talent show is a fundraising event for a very worthy cause, Falling Whistles. All proceeds, including the recommended $5 entry fee, will be going directly to Falling Whistles.
The mission of Falling Whistles was realized when Sean, one of the founders, was in the Congo and learned o...f young child soldiers who were too small to carry guns. Since they couldn't hold a weapon, they were given only a whistle to warn other soldiers and put on the front lines of war. Falling Whistles is a non-profit organization which helps promote awareness about the severe conditions of child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, partners with local leaders to rehabilitate the survivors of war, and advocates for peace in Congo.
